In the two weeks following the last review, I continued my work on my scenes and the 2D animation for the music notes.

I continued my work on the Storm scene. For Shot 3 I Parent-Constrainted the scarecrows to the raft since they will stay on for a little bit before they fall. I also changed the speed of the animation. I will continue to animate this scene.

Following Angelica’s notes, I began work on a Fade In shot in the Storm scene where Melody is playing her flute, then notices the waves are getting bigger, which draws her attention to the storm. I also filmed and acted out the live-action reference for this shot.

So far, I am impressed with the animation on Melody as she plays her flute.

I also continued to revise Shot 3 for the Carried Away Scene. At first, I reanimated Melody so that instead of seeing the storm, she would accept that her stage/raft was now drifting out to sea. Angelica also wanted me to animate the character interacting with a music note that I would later animate into the shot. I will continue to animate this shot, perfecting the movements of the body and the tail as Melody turns away from the scarecrow she is shaking.

With the music notes, I animated for two shots. One was the notes emerging from the portal. I animated them on a vertical canvas in Photoshop, and looped them with different colors each time. After I completed this animation, Isa composited the notes into the shot in Nuke. I am impressed with how the shot turned out.

Another shot I did was for the first shot of The Underwater scene. I animated the notes and lines rising up. Isa and Angelica wanted the outer lines to be thicker, so I thickened them by adding an Outer Glow in Layer Style, which would be hidden under the color gradients. They will be composited eventually in Nuke.

When it came to the DAC logo, Isa had the idea of presenting the logo in Sea Foam and then the D's would turn into 2D music notes.

I already had a DAC logo model made in Maya, so we figured we could maybe turn it into Sea Foam in Houdini.

In the following weeks I plan to do more work on the 2D music notes and my scenes. I may also work more with Isa on the DAC logo. I am going to continue my hard work and produce more quality work for our senior capstone short.
