During the last two weeks, I continued to do designs for the lead cat, who was renamed to Melody since Piper was similar to a Pixar short about a bird named Piper who faces her fear of water. Once more, I looked at reference, and when I told my dad about it, he had the idea of making the cat a calico. When I first showed my group the calico design, they liked it and decided to go with that for Melody’s breed.

Next, we came up with the color palette of the island. Since it was lonely, and depressing, I gave the palette more desaturated shades of blue, grey, and green.

In contrast, we decided to give the village more vibrant colors that were kind of like pastel.

This gave me the idea of designing the village by literally using oil pastels.

I had fun coming up with some buildings for the village, by putting a bridge on some of the rooftops.

I did a design of the island that would look like a music note, but it was rejected because it was a little too similar to Cartoon Saloon's Song of the Sea.

I also designed the scarecrows on Melody’s island. The body would be two sticks covered in thatched leaves and grass, and the head would be a coconut with a mouth and brows drawn on.

I also worked on a good silhouette for Melody. Our group had talked about giving the character a silhouette that would resemble a music note.

I then did a design of Melody, combining elements from designs by Angelica and myself, while also making it more soft and rounded like a model done by Chas. I gave the tail a specific shape like a music note, and even drew some music notes to use as Melody’s spots.

Oh, and I even did a drawing of a cat-mermaid fountain for the village. I called it a Purr-Maid XD

I’m pleased with my progress in the last two weeks. I’ve been pretty creative with the designs and types of art mediums I’ve used. I’m also impressed with my group’s creativity as well. They’ve come up with cool designs for the characters, the island, and the village. For the next two weeks, I hope for our group to make more progress as we approach the final look and story for the short.
